Deck overview

This Esper control deck is built around Y'shtola, Night's Blessed, a commander that rewards life loss and casting noncreature spells with mana value 3 or greater. The primary strategy is to accumulate incremental life drain through Y'shtola's pings, Kambal, Consul of Allocation, Mai, Scornful Striker, Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, and similar effects, while using card draw engines to maintain advantage. The deck can pivot to an infinite combo finish with Bloodchief Ascension + Mindcrank, or a massive Exsanguinate to drain the table. Zur the Enchanter in the 99 provides a repeatable tutor for key enchantments. The deck plays a patient, value-oriented game, controlling the board with a dense suite of removal and counterspells before closing out.
