Deck overview

The Ur-Sphinx commands an Esper battlecruiser and reanimator strategy centered around heavy flying tribal synergies. The deck leverages the commander's eminence ability alongside dedicated cost reducers such as Urza's Incubator, Herald's Horn, and Heartless Summoning to bypass the steep mana costs of powerful Sphinxes. Seven copies of Sphinx's Approach provide reliable card draw, graveyard velocity, and an on-demand tutor to cheat key Sphinxes directly onto the battlefield. Reanimation spells including Reanimate, Necromancy, and Victimize allow the deck to pivot between hardcasting discounted threats and reviving discarded high-end creatures like Magister Sphinx, Consecrated Sphinx, Archfiend of Despair, and Medomai the Ageless. Once the airborne engine is established by Turn 4-5, the deck exerts decisive pressure by Turn 6, closing out games by Turn 8 through overwhelming combat damage and The Ur-Sphinx's massive mill-and-free-cast combat triggers.
