Deck overview

This deck is a high-synergy Simic Merfolk kindred strategy led by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The game plan revolves around curving low-cost Merfolk during the opening turns, deploying Hakbal on turn 4, and utilizing his combat trigger to explore across the entire team. This mechanic provides dual value: putting revealed land cards directly into hand to fuel ramp and fixing, while placing +1/+1 counters on nonland reveals to scale the board rapidly. Hakbal's attack trigger further accelerates mana by dropping lands directly onto the battlefield. The deck converts this resource superiority into a win through unblockable attacks enabled by Herald of Secret Streams, Islandwalk lords like Lord of Atlantis paired with flood counters, or an overrun via Craterhoof Behemoth. Robust protection spells and efficient countermagic defend the creature engine against opposing sweepers and removal.
