Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black aristocrats and big-mana control deck commanded by Avacyn, Angel of Horror. The strategy focuses on accelerating mana through swamps and doublers, establishing sacrifice outlets, and deploying high-impact creatures that generate overwhelming value upon entering the battlefield or dying. Avacyn, Angel of Horror turns every nontoken creature into a self-recurring threat by returning it to the battlefield at the beginning of each end step. By combining this recursion with edict creatures like Plaguecrafter and death triggers like Kokusho, the Evening Star and Gray Merchant of Asphodel, the deck locks down opposing creature boards while draining life totals in large increments. Even without its commander, the 99 functions smoothly as a big-mana engine capable of winning through Bolas's Citadel, massive reanimation spells, or large Exsanguinate casts. Its primary limitations are a lack of noncreature permanent removal and vulnerability to graveyard hate.
