Deck overview

This deck is a Dimir tribal-control engine helmed by Vren, the Relentless, combining heavy sacrifice removal with exponential Rat swarm payoffs. Vren acts as both a one-sided graveyard hate piece and an army generator, exiling opposing creatures that would die and converting them into Relentless Rat tokens at each end step. The deck establishes early control through low-cost edict spells such as Sheoldred's Edict, Liliana's Triumph, and Accursed Marauder, clearing opposing boards while triggering Vren repeatedly. Once the token engine is active, lord effects like Ashcoat of the Shadow Swarm, Marrow-Gnawer, and Valley Rotcaller amplify combat pressure, while Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos lock opponents out of maintaining a creature presence. Counterspells like Swan Song and Counterspell defend the board against sweepers. The deck steadily grinds out opponents through overwhelming creature combat and direct drain, converting opposing attrition directly into an inescapable Dimir swarm.
