Deck overview

The deck uses Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor as a combat-based card engine. Small evasive creatures such as Changeling Outcast, Tormented Soul, and Dauthi Slayer connect reliably enough to draw cards, while Gix, Yawgmoth Praetor can discard excess cards to cast spells from an opponent's library without paying their mana costs. Sol Ring, Dark Ritual, Jet Medallion, Bontu's Monument, Crypt Ghast, and K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth help support the expensive commander activation. The deck also has strong creature removal, graveyard recursion, life-gain support, and several large black-mana payoffs. Its main weakness is conversion: the value engine does not reliably become a lethal sequence or total lockout. Tutors are limited, protection is partial, and the commander plus attackers remain vulnerable to removal and sweepers. The deck is best played as a resilient mono-black value deck that pressures life totals while accumulating resources for a later Gray Merchant of Asphodel or Exsanguinate.
