Deck overview

This deck is a casual Izzet Spellslinger deck commanded by Alania, Divergent Storm, highlighting the Otter creature type alongside Wizard synergies and copy mechanics. The strategy revolves around deploying Alania on Turn 5 and leveraging her triggered ability on Turn 6 and beyond to duplicate the first instant, sorcery, or Otter spell cast each turn. A board of prowess and burn creatures—such as Adeliz, the Cinder Wind, Valley Floodcaller, and Coruscation Mage—grows in size and chips away at opponents' life totals with every spell cast. The deck's mana base is heavily basic-land focused, allowing Back to Basics to act as an asymmetric tax when drawn naturally. While the deck contains the potent two-card combo of Niv-Mizzet, Parun and Curiosity, a complete lack of tutors means the deck primarily wins through incremental combat and burn across extended turns.
