Deck overview

This mono-black deck pairs Sarevok, Deathbringer with Cultist of the Absolute to turn the commander into an imposing 6/7 flying deathtouch beater as early as Turn 4. The strategy leverages cheap recurring creatures like Reassembling Skeleton, Bloodsoaked Champion, and Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalia to feed Cultist's mandatory upkeep sacrifice trigger. Meanwhile, Sarevok pressures the table by punishing any opponent whose turn passes without a permanent leaving the battlefield for 6 direct life loss. Supporting packages feature classic black aristocrats drain pieces, including Bastion of Remembrance and Zulaport Cutthroat, along with recursive graveyard engines. While the deck boasts high battlefield resilience due to temporary reanimation spells, edict effects, and Ward protection, its clock relies primarily on single-target combat damage and incremental attrition. This leaves it vulnerable to multi-turn table response cycles unless it manages to assemble its secondary persist recursion combo.
