Deck overview

This Golgari Midrange deck leverages Old Man Willow as a scaling combat threat and removal engine fueled by land ramp. The deck uses a dense package of mana acceleration—such as Rampant Growth, Sakura-Tribe Elder, and Three Tree Rootweaver—to rapidly advance its mana base. As lands accumulate, Old Man Willow grows into a formidable beater that simultaneously shrinks opposing creatures by sacrificing tokens or utility creatures during combat. High-end stompy payoffs like Crash of Rhino Beetles, Rampaging Brontodon, and Tendershoot Dryad provide massive secondary threats, while Overcome and Goreclaw, Terror of Qal Sisma give the board trample to punch through defenses. While the deck boasts excellent mana velocity and resilient backup threats, it lacks instant-speed stack protection and dedicated card draw engines. Consequently, it relies on conventional multi-turn combat rotations to grind down opposing life totals.
