Deck overview

This mono-black deck is commanded by Mortarion, Daemon Primarch, centering its game plan on converting life loss into board presence, card draw, and aristocrat damage. Leveraging mono-black mana doublers such as Cabal Coffers, Crypt Ghast, and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, the deck powers out high-mana threats while aggressively spending its life total using engines like Necropotence, Greed, Black Market Connections, and Bolas's Citadel. Mortarion turns this paid life into an army of 2/2 menace Astartes Warriors, which can either attack directly or be sacrificed to engines like Ashnod's Altar and Priest of Forgotten Gods to trigger drain effects via South Wind Avatar, Popular Egotist, and Sanguinary Priest. As an alternative win condition, the deck features the two-card infinite combo of Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose and Exquisite Blood. While weak to stack interaction and artifact/enchantment removal, its raw card draw and high burst potential make it a resilient midgame threat.
