Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black spellslinger control and combo list commanded by Toshiro Umezawa. Toshiro turns every dead opposing creature into virtual card advantage by recasting instant removal directly from the graveyard. Backed by 27 instant-speed spells, the deck dominates creature-based boards with surgical efficiency. Robust black ramp, including Cabal Coffers, Crypt Ghast, and rituals, powers out game-defining card engines like Necropotence, The One Ring, and Bolas's Citadel. The primary win condition is the compact two-card combo of Professor Onyx and Chain of Smog, which drains the entire table in a single turn through repeated Magecraft triggers. Backup lines include Sedgemoor Witch with Chain of Smog and the classic Bolas's Citadel, Sensei's Divining Top, and Aetherflux Reservoir engine. While exceptionally potent against creature strategies and equipped with top-tier tutors, the deck must manage its life total carefully and remains vulnerable to artifact-based combos and heavy countermagic.
