Multiverse Reforged puts a four-color Polymorph engine right in the command zone. [[Jace, Multiverse Architect]] wants you to spend your first three turns playing two-mana rocks and cheap token makers, then use his −3 loyalty ability on turn four to exile a disposable token and flip a seven- or eight-mana monster like [[Serra's Emissary]] or [[Archon of Cruelty]] straight from your library onto the battlefield. Out of the box, two flaws trip up that plan: nearly half the creatures in the 99 are low-impact duds or active traps, and the deck runs zero counterspells to stop an opponent from killing your token in response to Jace's −3.
If you buy one card today, spend $0.23 on [[Ovika, Enigma Goliath]] and cut [[Dack Fayden, Helping Hand]]. Flipping Dack off Jace's −3 forces you to reveal three creatures from your own library and hand control of them to your opponents. [[Ovika, Enigma Goliath]] gives you a 6/6 flyer with ward that turns every noncreature spell you cast into hasty Goblin tokens. Each tier below stands on its own, so jump straight to the budget that fits your wallet:
- $25 (24 swaps, $24.85): Purges nine weak creatures, shields Jace's −3 with Empower Jace planeswalker tokens and countermagic, and gives your flipped monsters haste.
- $50 (26 swaps, $49.82): Upgrades the flip pool into spell-copying, spell-bouncing, and convoke-tutoring engines led by [[Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant]] and [[Hullbreaker Horror]].
- $100 (27 swaps, $99.69): Adds [[Toxrill, the Corrosive]], an instant-speed Demon tutor-and-draw engine with [[Razaketh, the Foulblooded]] and [[Vilis, Broker of Blood]], and fetchland landfall flips.
Why the Precon Misfires on Turn Four
Nothing deflates a Polymorph turn faster than tapping out for [[Jace, Multiverse Architect]], activating his −3 ability immediately to exile a 1/1 token, and flipping into [[Dack Fayden, Helping Hand]] or [[Venser, Fervent Forger]]. Dack's enter-the-battlefield trigger reveals three creatures from your library and donates them to your three opponents, handing your rivals your own [[Archon of Cruelty]] or [[Serra's Emissary]]. Venser is a flash creature whose spell-copy mode does nothing at sorcery speed. Even worse, if an opponent points [[Swords to Plowshares]] at your lone 1/1 token while Jace's −3 is on the stack, the ability fails to resolve and Jace loses three loyalty counters for nothing.
Every Polymorph card in this deck, from Jace's −3 and [[Proteus Staff]] to [[Mass Polymorph]], [[Synthetic Destiny]], and [[Nissa, Leyline Tamer]], reveals from the top of your library until it hits a valid card. That means every creature slot in the 99 is a math equation: cutting ten bad creatures turns a coin-flip spin into a guaranteed haymaker. At the same time, notice the exact wording on [[Jace, Multiverse Architect]]'s −3: he exiles "another target planeswalker or creature you control." Cards with Empower Jace create a blue Jace planeswalker token. Creature removal cannot target that token, and Jace's {2} combat tax protects all Jaces you control, giving you a fizzle-proof target waiting on turn four.
How the Deck Wins
Your commander does three jobs from the command zone. First, [[Jace, Multiverse Architect]] taxes any opponent who wants to attack a Jace you control by {2} per combat step. Second, his −3 exiles a disposable creature or planeswalker token to cheat a giant threat from your library into play on turn four. Third, if you naturally draw an eight-mana monster into your opening hand, Jace's +1 draws two cards and tucks a card from your hand onto the bottom of your library, while [[Brainstorm]], [[Brainsurge]], and [[Brainstone]] put drawn bombs directly on top of your deck right before you spin.
Say you play [[Sol Ring]] and a Signet on turns one and two, cast [[Lingering Souls]] on turn three, and land [[Jace, Multiverse Architect]] on turn four before playing your land for the turn. You activate Jace's −3, exiling a 1/1 Spirit token, and flip [[Nissa, Leyline Tamer]]. Now you play your land for the turn. Nissa's landfall ability triggers, drawing a card and revealing from the top of your library until you put [[Archon of Cruelty]] onto the battlefield for free. By turn five or six, casting [[Mass Polymorph]], [[Synthetic Destiny]], or [[Divergent Transformations]] can trade a board of tokens for haymakers like [[Serra's Emissary]], [[Archfiend of Despair]], and [[Aurelia, the Warleader]] to close out the game.
$25 Upgrade: Purify the Pool and Shield the Spin
Out of the box, activating [[Jace, Multiverse Architect]]'s −3 is a gamble twice over: an opponent can fizzle the ability by killing your target token with spot removal, and even when it resolves, nine weak creatures in the 99 can turn your flip into a dud or hand your best cards to the table. For $24.85, we replace all nine trap creatures with immediate haymakers, add Empower Jace planeswalker tokens and two-mana countermagic to protect the spin, and put team-wide haste on the board so flipped monsters swing the turn they arrive.
Protecting your turn-four spin starts before [[Jace, Multiverse Architect]] even hits the stack. Out of the box, playing a creature token on turn three invites any player holding [[Path to Exile]] to wait until you activate Jace's −3 and blow up your target in response. [[Way of the Pyromancer]] and [[Way of the Necromancer]] bypass creature removal completely. Either enchantment comes down on turn two and uses Empower Jace 2 to create a two-loyalty blue Jace planeswalker token. Because it is a planeswalker, creature-only spot removal cannot touch it. Better yet, [[Way of the Pyromancer]] gives all your planeswalkers "+1: Add {R}," turning that token into a turn-three mana source that ticks up to three loyalty, and [[Way of the Necromancer]] puts a loyalty counter on every planeswalker you control whenever a creature you control dies.
Once a Jace is on the battlefield or in your hand, [[Countersculpt]] and [[Theorist's Sanctum]] turn on at full speed. To behold a Jace, you choose a Jace permanent you control on the battlefield (which includes either [[Jace, Multiverse Architect]] or any Empower Jace planeswalker token) or reveal a Jace card from your hand. With a Jace token already in play from turn two, [[Theorist's Sanctum]] enters untapped as a fetchable Island and [[Countersculpt]] becomes a hard [[Counterspell]] for {U}{U} that also puts another loyalty counter on your Jace token. Alongside [[Arcane Denial]], you now have two-mana answers for exile sweepers and instant-speed removal, while [[Jace's Machinations]] creates an eight-loyalty Jace token at instant speed and lets all your Jaces activate their loyalty abilities at instant speed until end of turn.
Noncreature engines keep your library pure for creature-only Polymorph spells. [[Proteus Staff]], [[Mass Polymorph]], [[Synthetic Destiny]], [[Divergent Transformations]], and [[Nissa, Leyline Tamer]] only reveal until they hit a creature card, skipping artifacts, enchantments, and planeswalkers entirely. That makes [[Shorikai, Genesis Engine]] a stealth MVP: as long as you don't crew it, Shorikai stays a noncreature artifact in your library and on the battlefield while paying {1} to draw two cards, discard one, and create a 1/1 Pilot token every turn. [[Identity Echo]] gives you a second copy of Jace's −3 on a three-mana enchantment, and [[Brainstone]] acts as a second [[Brainstorm]], letting you tuck two expensive creatures from your hand right onto the top of your library before you activate Jace or [[Identity Echo]].
With the nine weakest precon creatures gone, every spin hits a threat that warps the table immediately. [[Ovika, Enigma Goliath]] has ward {3} and 3 life and turns every Signet, cantrip, or Polymorph spell you cast into X hasty 1/1 Goblin tokens. [[Galactus, Devourer of Worlds]] exiles any target permanent when it enters and attacks the highest-life opponent as an indestructible 12/12 flying trampler. To fix the precon's sluggish three-turn combat clock, [[Rising of the Day]] and [[Urabrask the Hidden]] grant your entire team haste, letting [[Etali, Primal Storm]] exile and cast four free spells the turn it lands, while [[Aurelia, the Warleader]] attacks immediately to untap your board for a second combat phase. Even your end step becomes lethal: [[Kefka, Dancing Mad]] triggers on the end step of the turn he flips to cast random spells from opponents' graveyards for free, and [[Ardyn, the Usurper]] gives Demons like [[Archfiend of Despair]] menace, lifelink, and haste while exiling graveyard creatures at the start of combat to make 5/5 hasty Demon copies.
Our cuts clear out self-sabotage and dead text. [[Fact or Fiction]] actively fights a Polymorph deck by forcing revealed creature bombs into your graveyard or hand, so [[Divergent Transformations]] takes its slot to flip two tokens into two monsters at instant speed. [[Path of Ancestry]] enters tapped with a creature-type scry clause that can never trigger for a planeswalker commander, and [[Cursed Mirror]] and [[Chromatic Lantern]] are three-mana rocks that miss the turn-two ramp window. Replacing them with [[Orzhov Signet]], [[Rising of the Day]], and untapped duals like [[Adarkar Wastes]], [[Desolate Mire]], and [[Ferrous Lake]] means your turn-four Jace activation lands on schedule and every creature you reveal demands an immediate answer.

$50 Upgrade: Lock the Stack and Double Every Spell
Out of the box, flipping a big creature on turn four only pressures one player's life total while leaving three opponents free to untap and cast a board wipe. At $50, we turn your Polymorph pool into stack-controlling engines that counter opposing spells automatically, bounce threats at instant speed, and tutor combo finishers with convoke. It keeps the $25 core intact: [[Ovika, Enigma Goliath]] floods the board with hasty Goblins off noncreature spells, [[Way of the Pyromancer]] and [[Countersculpt]] create Jace planeswalker tokens that [[Jace, Multiverse Architect]]'s −3 can exile without being vulnerable to creature removal, [[Shorikai, Genesis Engine]] draws cards and makes Pilot fodder as a noncreature artifact, [[Divergent Transformations]] flips two tokens at instant speed, and [[Urabrask the Hidden]] and [[Aurelia, the Warleader]] push immediate hasty combat.
Flipping a giant beater on turn four pressures life totals, but flipping [[Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant]] or [[Hullbreaker Horror]] ends your opponents' ability to play normal Magic. Once [[Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant]] hits the battlefield, the first artifact, instant, or sorcery spell an opponent casts each turn is countered automatically, forcing the table to burn a sacrificial spell before they can resolve a board wipe or spot removal. At the same time, Jin-Gitaxias copies the first artifact, instant, or sorcery spell you cast each turn. Casting [[Brainsurge]] resolves twice to draw eight cards; casting [[Divergent Transformations]] exiles four tokens to flip four monsters; and even a two-mana Signet or [[Staff of the Storyteller]] enters with a token copy alongside it.
When you flip [[Hullbreaker Horror]], every cheap card in your hand becomes instant-speed interaction. Because the deck runs eleven two-mana rocks plus cheap instants like [[Brainstorm]], [[Countersculpt]], and [[Fatehold Charm]], untapping with [[Hullbreaker Horror]] lets you bounce opposing spells right off the stack or return problem permanents to their owners' hands before combat. You also face a rewarding sequencing choice when you have [[Brainstorm]] or [[Brainstone]] in hand before activating Jace's −3: if the table is tapped out and you have tokens ready, put [[Hoarding Broodlord]] on top of your library; if opponents are holding open mana for a sweeper, stack [[Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant]] or [[Hullbreaker Horror]] instead.
Chaining one flip into five is [[Hoarding Broodlord]]'s specialty. When Broodlord enters off [[Jace, Multiverse Architect]]'s −3, it searches your library for any card, exiles it face down, and gives spells you cast from exile convoke. Because [[Hoarding Broodlord]] enters untapped, you can immediately tap Broodlord itself along with your leftover Spirits, Mites, or Pilots to help pay for the exiled spell. Grabbing [[Synthetic Destiny]] or [[Mass Polymorph]] turns one turn-four spin into a full board of haymakers without spending another card from your hand.
Every cut in this tier removes a low-impact precon creature or a slow setup card that dilutes your turn-four spin. [[The Ur-Sphinx]] has an Eminence ability that does nothing in the 99, [[Venser, Fervent Forger]] whiffs on its spell-copy mode when flipped at sorcery speed, [[Jhoira, Weatherlight Corsair]] pays life for a random historic flip, and [[Ob Nixilis, the Ascended]] only destroys tapped creatures when he enters during your main phase. Replacing them with [[Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant]], [[Hullbreaker Horror]], [[Hoarding Broodlord]], and [[Gisela, Blade of Goldnight]] means every flip takes over the table. Gisela also supercharges the precon's [[Archfiend of Despair]]: she doubles all combat damage you deal to opponents, and Archfiend makes each opponent lose that much life again on the end step, turning a single 5-power flyer into 20 life lost. With [[Deserted Beach]], [[Adarkar Wastes]], [[Desolate Mire]], and [[Ferrous Lake]] replacing tapped lands like [[Restless Anchorage]], [[Prairie Stream]], [[Path of Ancestry]], and [[Restless Spire]], your mana base supports double-blue and double-white turns without stumbling, and a single flip locks down both combat and the stack.

$100 Upgrade: Demon Tutors, Board Decay, and Instant-Speed Landfall
Even a protected turn-four flip can stall out if an opponent floods the board with chump blockers or you draw your expensive monsters before you can spin for them. The $100 list turns spare tokens and life total into instant-speed tutors, mass board decay, and opponents'-turn landfall flips. It keeps the best pieces from the $50 upgrade: [[Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant]] and [[Hullbreaker Horror]] lock down the stack, [[Hoarding Broodlord]] tutors with convoke, [[Gisela, Blade of Goldnight]] doubles damage, [[Shorikai, Genesis Engine]] and [[Ovika, Enigma Goliath]] fuel token production, and [[Way of the Pyromancer]] and [[Countersculpt]] create Jace planeswalker tokens that [[Jace, Multiverse Architect]]'s −3 can exile so creature removal cannot fizzle your spin.
Opponents who try to race [[Jace, Multiverse Architect]] with wide creature boards hit a wall the moment [[Toxrill, the Corrosive]] flips into play. Toxrill puts a slime counter on every creature you don't control at the beginning of each end step, not just your own. In a four-player pod, that gives every opposing creature −4/−4 across a single turn cycle. Every opposing creature that dies with a slime counter on it creates a 1/1 black Slug creature token under your control, refilling your board with fresh fodder for Jace's −3, [[Mass Polymorph]], or [[Razaketh, the Foulblooded]].
Flipping [[Razaketh, the Foulblooded]] or [[Vilis, Broker of Blood]] turns your life total and token makers into an on-demand combo engine. As long as you have even one spare token on the battlefield, [[Razaketh, the Foulblooded]] lets you pay 2 life and sacrifice a creature at instant speed to tutor any card from your library directly into your hand. If an opponent targets Razaketh or Jace with removal, sacrifice a token in response to find [[Dovin's Veto]] or [[Countersculpt]]. If the coast is clear, sacrifice two tokens for 4 life to tutor [[Brainstone]] and [[Mass Polymorph]], stack [[Vilis, Broker of Blood]] and [[Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant]] on top of your deck, and flip your entire board. When [[Razaketh, the Foulblooded]] and [[Vilis, Broker of Blood]] are on the battlefield together, every activation of Razaketh's ability pays 2 life, triggering Vilis to draw two cards BEFORE your tutored card even hits your hand. Better still, [[Ardyn, the Usurper]] grants all Demons you control menace, lifelink, and haste, so Razaketh, Vilis, and the precon's [[Archfiend of Despair]] all swing for lifelink the turn they enter.
Adding [[Windswept Heath]] and [[Hallowed Fountain]] unlocks an instant-speed trick with the precon's [[Nissa, Leyline Tamer]]. Nissa draws a card whenever a land you control enters, and the first time her ability resolves each turn, she reveals cards from the top of your library until she puts a creature card onto the battlefield for free. Notice that her clause checks the first time the ability resolves each turn, not just on your turn. Play [[Windswept Heath]] on your turn to trigger Nissa and flip one monster for free, then wait until an opponent's turn to sacrifice [[Windswept Heath]] for [[Hallowed Fountain]]. Nissa triggers for the first time on that opponent's turn, drawing another card and ambushing the table with a second free creature at instant speed. Cracking [[Windswept Heath]] also shuffles your library, re-randomizing any expensive creatures that [[Jace, Multiverse Architect]]'s +1 put on the bottom of your deck.
Our creature cuts clear out every remaining vanilla body and slow trigger from the precon's flip pool. [[Ginger, Queen of Sweets]] is a ground-bound 6/4 whose monarch trigger invites opponents to attack your life total, [[Omnath, Locus of the Void]] banks colorless mana in a deck designed to cheat four-color threats into play, and [[Akroma, Angel of Fury]] is an eight-drop beater with no enter-the-battlefield impact or haste, so they make way for [[Toxrill, the Corrosive]], [[Razaketh, the Foulblooded]], and [[Vilis, Broker of Blood]]. On the noncreature side, [[Dovin's Veto]] replaces [[Stroke of Midnight]] with uncounterable protection for your tokens, while [[Windswept Heath]] and [[Hallowed Fountain]] replace [[Perilous Landscape]] and [[Prairie Stream]]. You keep team-wide haste from [[Rising of the Day]], extra combats from [[Aurelia, the Warleader]], and Demon haste from [[Ardyn, the Usurper]], while every Polymorph flip now wipes opposing boards, tutors your deck at instant speed, or draws cards off every point of life you lose.

Where to Take Jace Next
Upgrading Multiverse Reforged transforms [[Jace, Multiverse Architect]] from a roulette wheel that occasionally donates your best creatures to your opponents into a deterministic, counter-backed Polymorph machine. If you just want to purge the precon's trap creatures and stop opponents from fizzling Jace's −3, the $25 tier fixes every structural flaw for less than the price of a draft. Grab the $50 tier if you want stack-controlling Praetors and convoke chains, or step up to the $100 list if you want instant-speed Demon tutoring with [[Razaketh, the Foulblooded]] and fetchland tricks with [[Nissa, Leyline Tamer]].
Beyond the $100 Budget and Bracket 3 Limits
- [[Scroll Rack]] ($31.26): Swaps high-cost bombs stranded in your hand with the top cards of your library for {1} every turn, making every Jace or [[Proteus Staff]] activation completely deterministic.
- [[Valgavoth, Terror Eater]] ($17.80) and [[Avacyn, Angel of Hope]] ($34.77): Two premium Polymorph flips that priced out of our $100 cap. Valgavoth demands opponents sacrifice three nonland permanents just to target him, while Avacyn makes Jace, your mana rocks, and your tokens indestructible.
- [[Flooded Strand]] ($15.69), [[Godless Shrine]] ($8.08), and [[Watery Grave]] ($9.48): Adding a second fetchland and two more shocklands gives [[Nissa, Leyline Tamer]] another instant-speed landfall trigger on opponents' turns.
- Game Changers for High-Power Pods: We kept zero Game Changers in our tiers to match the precon's count, but Bracket 3 allows up to three. [[Consecrated Sphinx]] ($25.08), [[Fierce Guardianship]] ($60.55), and [[Teferi's Protection]] ($34.97) are all Game Changers that slot right in: Sphinx draws six cards a turn cycle when flipped, while Guardianship and Protection defend Jace's −3 and your board for free or three mana.
Even with zero Game Changers, flipping [[Jin-Gitaxias, Progress Tyrant]], [[Toxrill, the Corrosive]], or [[Razaketh, the Foulblooded]] on turn four hits much harder than a stock precon, so give your table a quick Rule 0 heads-up before you shuffle up.
