ANALYSIS

Overview:

This 5-color Dragon tribal deck leverages The Ur-Dragon's eminence ability to reduce costs and generate explosive value through combat-triggered card advantage. The strategy focuses on ramping into high-impact Dragons, overwhelming opponents with flying threats, and utilizing attack triggers to cheat permanents into play. While primarily a combat-focused deck, it includes secondary value engines like Terror of the Peaks damage pings and Utvara Hellkite token generation. The Ur-Dragon serves as both a cost reducer and late-game finisher, though the deck can function without it being cast due to the eminence ability.

Primer:

Core Strategy Execution:

  1. Early Ramp (Turns 1-4):
Prioritize land-fetching spells (Farseek, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach) and cost reducers (Dragonlord's Servant, Herald's Horn). Use Cavern of Souls and Secluded Courtyard for color fixing.
  2. Mid-Game Threats (Turns 4-6):
Deploy key Dragons like Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient for explosive mana, Old Gnawbone for treasure generation, or Terror of the Peaks for damage triggers. Activate The World Tree once six lands are in play for perfect color fixing.
  3. Late-Game Dominance (Turns 7+):
Cast Tiamat to tutor game-ending Dragons like Ancient Copper Dragon or Atarka, World Render. Use Last March of the Ents to refill the board after wipes. Activate Hellkite Charger for extra combat phases with Klauth/Old Gnawbone mana.

Mulligan Priorities:

  • Keep hands with 3+ lands including green sources
  • Prioritize early ramp (1-3 CMC) or cost reducers
  • Look for at least one high-impact Dragon or The Great Henge
  • Avoid hands with only 5+ CMC Dragons

Key Tips:

  • Sequence Dragon Tempest before deploying Dragons for haste and damage triggers
  • Use Kindred Discovery naming Dragons for massive card draw
  • Crux of Fate can be a one-sided board wipe in this deck
  • Scalelord Reckoner punishes targeted removal against your Dragons

Weaknesses:

Critical

  • Extreme vulnerability to board wipes with limited recursion (only Haven of the Spirit Dragon and Bladewing the Risen for recovery)
  • Lacks answers to enchantment-based stax like Damping Sphere or Blood Moon

Moderate

  • Slow mana base with 10+ tapped lands delays critical turns
  • Minimal stack interaction (only Stubborn Denial and An Offer You Can't Refuse)

Minor

  • High average CMC (4.2) leads to occasional clunky draws
  • Limited graveyard synergy beyond Dragon recursion

Most Important Cards:

  • The Ur-Dragon (Cost reduction engine and value generator)
  • Tiamat (Tutor 5 game-winning Dragons)
  • The Great Henge (Card draw, +1/+1 counters, and mana sink)
  • Dragon Tempest (Haste enabler and damage amplifier)
  • Utvara Hellkite (Token swarm generator)
  • Klauth, Unrivaled Ancient (Mana acceleration for extra combats)
  • Old Gnawbone (Treasure generation for explosive turns)
  • Kindred Discovery (Card draw engine)
  • Terror of the Peaks (Non-combat damage win condition)
  • Atarka, World Render (Combat damage multiplier)

Attribute Ratings:

Speed: 6/10
Can deploy threatening boards by turn 5-6 with optimal ramp, but lacks fast mana or T4 win potential.

Resilience: 5/10
Limited protection beyond Lightning Greaves and few counterspells, though Scalelord Reckoner deters targeted removal.

Consistency: 7/10
Strong card draw engines and Tiamat tutoring compensate for high CMC, but lacks noncreature tutors.

Interaction: 4/10
Relies on reactive removal (Swords to Plowshares, Despark) rather than proactive stax. Minimal stack interaction.

Rating Justification:

This deck demonstrates focused casual power with T8-10 combat wins through efficient ramp and Dragon synergies, but its vulnerability to common disruption and lack of infinite combos cap its ceiling. The Ur-Dragon's eminence ability provides strong consistency, while the high creature density aligns with precon-level interaction suites.

Power level: 5.0 - 5.5
